MaterialiseMaterialise is a company that is specialized in 3D-printing. One of their unique printers, the "Mammoth", is capable of printing very large objects. The gravity racer is the result of a two week intensive programme. The assignment was to create the bodywork for a gravity racer that could be printed using the Mammoth printer.

ConceptFirst and foremost we wanted a unique shape that could only be achieved with 3D printing. We were strongly inspired by reptile skin and tried to implement these reptile scales in our design. The shape consists out of triangles which appear to be floating, but are connected underneath with a DNA-like structure. This makes the gravity racer look like a delineated object from a distance, while it appears very organic when seen at from a shorter distance.
